Eigo Sato

Eigo Sato graduated from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, majoring in International Japanese Studies, and completed a conducting program at Tokyo College of Music. He began playing the violin at age four and has served as concertmaster for various ensembles, including Seikei String Orchestra, TUFS Orchestra, and VariOrchestra. During his teenage years, he also began conducting choirs and string ensembles.

While still a university student, he began formal conducting studies as a conducting trainee at Tokyo College of Music. He has received top honors in international competitions, including 1st Prize at the Bach International Music Competition UK 2024, Platinum Prize at the Max Bruch International Competition 2024, and 1st Prize at WBMC 2024.

In 2020, he founded VariOrchestra with fellow musicians from top conservatories, leading performances and planning concerts. He has conducted major symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, and Schubert, integrating historically informed performance (HIP) approaches that have been praised for their freshness and insight.

Beyond the concert stage, Sato coaches youth and amateur orchestras and served as performance and movement advisor for actress Suzu Hirose in the film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s "A Pale View of Hills." His violin performances include appearances in public recitals such as the 15th Higashikurume Classic Concert.

He studied violin under Ryotaro Ito, Kazumi Udo, Anna Otsuka, and Yuri Shirase, and studied conducting under Nobutaka Masui. Outside of music, he works as a business consultant supporting large-scale transformation projects and also leads the online English learning platform "TUFLINGUAL."
